First Baptist Church, Milford CT

Our Pastor

Reverend Dr. Horace A. Hough is the son of Reverend Walter and Mrs. Bonnie Hough. A Queens, New York, native, he matriculated at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a focus in American Literature. He continued to obtain his Master of Arts degree in Religious Education with a concentration in Pastoral Studies from Fordham University Graduate School of Religion in Bronx, New York. In 2022, he earned his Doctor of Ministry degree in Transformational Leadership, Culture, and Ministry from New York Theological Seminary (NYC), in conjunction with New Theological Seminary of the West in Santa Ana, California.

In 2003, after serving as youth minister at his home Church, New Covenant Church of Christ (Baptist) in Queens, NY, Rev. Hough took on the position of Youth Pastor at Messiah Baptist Church in Bridgeport, CT. Under the tutelage of Pastor Tyrone P. Jones IV and Pastor James B. Logan, he served diligently for 12 years. During his tenure, he served the youth of the Church; worked with various youth leaders to create the community ministry, M.P.A.C. (Making Progress Amongst the Community); choreographed for the male disciples of Messiah’s Praise Dance Ministry; worked with the music ministry, and much more.

In July of 2016, he started another ministerial chapter when he was elected Pastor of the historic First Baptist Church in Milford, Connecticut. While abiding by the motto: “Come to not only have Church, but be the Church,” First Baptist has added services that continue to focus on providing for those in need, social justice & community organizing, and increasing fellowship and communal support within the Church body. With the pivotal changes necessary during the COVID-19 pandemic, Rev. Hough has led the Church through embracing the virtual space as another medium to provide community. The Church has embraced this new direction and has continued to learn, love, and labor through physically and virtually. In commitment to service, Rev. Hough has worked on several leadership teams in the state of Connecticut including the Board of Directors for United Way of Milford, CT, and serving as Director of Media and Technology for the Connecticut State Missionary Baptist Convention.

Professionally, he has spent his life working in education and mentoring. He currently serves as an adjunct professor at Hartford International University for Religion and Peace (formally Hartford Seminary), as well as a Fellow (student mentor) at Andover Newton Seminary at Yale Divinity School. However, the bulk of his experience has been working with youth. Most recently, he served in Danbury, CT as Boys Mentoring Director for Pathways Danbury Youth Ministries. Prior to that, Rev.  Hough served for eight years as Vice Principal of Pathways Academy, a private all-boys middle school.  Although he no longer serves in those capacities, he has continued to provide consultation to various institutions and to instruct young men. He is also author of the Amazon Best-Selling title, 8 Things Every Boy Should Know About Being A Man (Bethune & Nest), a handbook for boys to help deal with the societal expectations of manhood.

Personally, Rev. Hough is a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. He is thoroughly blessed to have the invaluable support of his beautiful wife, Kellee Knighten Hough in all his endeavors. Rev. Hough has always viewed his life with one mentality, “Where He leads me, I will follow.”
